CHEERS TO ALL

It is the role of advertising and communication to build brand equity and drive sales. However, it is also the responsibility of advertising and brands to understand culture and play a role in breaking stereotypes.

The HEINEKEN Company has launched a lovely ad film that uses only the power of visuals and lyrics to break a strong stereotype associated with drinking beer.

Don't miss the last line, where they do not mention beer at all. Very smart!

JAMES BOND - I AM WORKING

If you have been a James Bond fan and a regular watcher of the Bond franchise movies, you will remember the classic dialogue 'Shaken, not stirred' when James Bond is asked how he prefers his Martini.

All of that started changing when #Heineken started associating with the Bond movies since 1997. However, James Bond himself was shown drinking Heineken only from the 2012 film Skyfall.

Now, as the new #Bond movie 'Time To Die', which is set to release in April'20 starts its promotions, Heineken has gone a step further by showing James Bond drinking their alcohol free version of beer - Heineken 0.0, while working.

They have released a new video, and in that you see Daniel Craig, dressed in a tuxedo, refusing the vodka martini that the bartender serves to him, and rather calls for a Heineken 0.0

"I'm working," he then says to the barman.

The ad ends with the tagline: "Now you can while working".

BEER IN PAPER BOTTLES

With the focus increasing towards protecting the environment and coming up with #sustainable options, paper #packaging will be one of the hottest trends of 2020. Few days back, Carlsberg Group unveiled two prototypes of their green fibre beer bottles in paper packaging. These bottle are made from sustainably sourced bio-based wood fibres. These are not the final designs and there is still work to be done, but it is a great progress that the company has made since the time they started working on this idea in 2015.

They are not the only ones working on paper bottles. Other companies like Coca Cola, Absolut and L'oreal have come together with Carlsberg to form a paper bottle community. It is a joint venture called #Paboco. So keep watching this space as the excitement and announcements will increase in the months ahead!

LIQUID DEATH - MURDER YOUR THIRST

How eye-catching is a name and line like that! It is bound to stop you in your tracks when you come across a brand name like that in the aisles of your grocery store. Then you realize that it is not a can of beer but rather a can of water!

Liquid Death is a brand that has been launched by a Silicon Valley start-up and it has been gaining the interest of lot of investors. I am not surprised as it ticks many boxes:

1. The packaging is bound to disrupt the market which has always seen packed water in a certain style.

2. Coming in an aluminum can rather than a plastic bottle seems like a right step in a world that is becoming more and more conscious of the environment.

3. The brand name is quite catchy, and the font reminds you of a metal band, which is not a surprise, as the founder Mike Cessario happens to be a former drummer.

4. The can looks as good or even better than the regular beer cans, so even if you do not drink beer while your friends do, you would not mind ordering Liquid Death and enjoying with your friends.

Water has never looked so cool!
